This Italian scientist, winner of the 1906 Nobel Prize, was
a physician who received a grant to work at a hospital. He was drawn to
scientific research and found a small, neglected kitchen in the hospital, which
he transformed into a small laboratory for studying the histology of nervous
tissue. He prepared simple tools and began his work, using very basic tissue
stains at the time, which were later developed. He arrived at the simple
structure of nervous tissue under the microscope, which was very basic at the
time. By chance, Golgi discovered remarkable structures, which were then called
Golgi bodies. He didn't know what they were or their function, but Golgi
received the Nobel Prize for his discoveries in nervous tissue. This was the
first information about the tissue, but to be fair, this information was
overwhelming at the time and difficult for scientists to understand. The
discovery of the Golgi bodies dates back about 120 years, and with the advent
of the electron microscope , their structure and function were discovered, and
they became known as the Golgi Apparatus.
